FivePoint, the developer leading the Candlestick project, is working closely with San Francisco Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII) and multiple public and private partners to secure the necessary permits for the next phase of construction. The project will be a multi-decade project, allowing flexibility to respond to market conditions as the development progresses.

The Candlestick project will deliver significant public infrastructure to support a vibrant, connected waterfront neighborhood, with mixed-use development that will provide housing, businesses, parks and community amenities while enhancing mobility for residents and visitors. Planned improvements include:

  • Planned and approved roadways and a pedestrian-friendly street network to connect neighborhoods and the waterfront;
  • Expanded public transportation options are planned, including new bus service, express routes and connections to regional transit;
  • 105 acres of parks, waterfront promenades and open spaces, along with planned dedicated bike lanes and Bay Trail connections; and
  • New utilities (including storm drainage) to support a modern, sustainable mixed-use community.

The Candlestick plan offers the unique opportunity to design a development that embodies the future of city living, seamlessly integrating into Bayview-Hunters Point with new job-producing commercial centers, retail and community spaces, and much-needed housing serving people at various life stages and income levels.

The Candlestick project is a transit-oriented development designed to improve mobility and expand sustainable transportation options for residents, workers and visitors. These improvements include:

  • A planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system with a dedicated lane connecting to Bayshore Caltrain Station and Balboa Park BART Station;
  • A planned extension of Muni Bus 29 to serve the site directly; and
  • A planned Candlestick Express Bus providing service to downtown San Francisco.

The current plans also include new and improved roadways and within a 15-minute walk to transit stops, supporting multimodal lifestyles and delivering faster, more reliable, and more convenient connections to public and other transit opportunities to get residents and visitors across the neighborhood and to the broader Bay Area.

The Candlestick development plan features 105 acres of parks and open space and will activate 2.5 miles of the San Francisco waterfront, including:

  • Waterfront promenades and trails connecting to the Bay Trail;
  • Neighborhood parks and plazas;
  • Access to recreational water sports through nearby State Park land;
  • Dedicated bike lanes and an integrated trail network; and
  • Planned retail, restaurants, entertainment venues, and hotels to serve residents and visitors.

The curret development plan is designed to foster community interaction, healthy living, and a vibrant, inclusive urban waterfront experience.

Candlestick is currently entitled for over 7,200 residential units , which includes  a mix of market-rate and below-market-rate homes. Plans includes a diverse mix of housing, such as  townhomes, condominiums and apartments. Over 32% of all homes are planned for low- and very-low-income single adults, families and seniors.
The new housing built at Candlestick will play a crucial role in helping to meet the City’s housing goals.

Candlestick is committed to environmental responsibility, including planned implementation of responsible construction practices and planning for long-term sustainability of the neighborhood. The current development plans qualify for a LEED Gold rating, are planned to exceed Title 24 energy standards, and comply with the City’s Green Building Ordinance. Sustainability features are planned to include emissions control technology during construction, modern stormwater management, responsible use of recycled water, and a multi-modal transportation ecosystem. We also have a goal to plant up to 10,000 new trees at Candlestick and the surrounding area, many of which will be in the area’s new public parks.
